Pre-Production: Format Potential and Technical Limitations

Test Run

       Technical Limitations

  • ·Being only a demo run this meant that the process of shooting the animation, as well as the actual animation itself was a lot shorter. The real thing will be a lot longer than the demo run so I will have to control the lighting by using several light sources i.e. a lamp, or torches in order to keep the lighting the same for each time I come to shoot, so it doesn’t change throughout the animation.
  • ·Due to the software ‘Dragonframe’ that we are using to create our animations only being installed on the computers in the Media classroom at BHASVIC (room 128), when it comes to shooting I will have to shoot at BHASVIC and only in this room in lesson time or when the room is free, rather than shooting at home when I have free time and can control everything much more easily so this could make the animation process a little longer.
  • ·As the equipment available to work with at college isn’t as complex and sophisticated as some of the equipment used in the industry I will have to put a lot of effort into paying close attention to detail in order to make my animation as professional as I can.
  • ·Because my animation will be entirely hand drawn I have to make sure that each piece of paper (when placed on top of each other) is placed directly on top of the last one so that the objects within the drawing don’t appear to have moved place alongside the log from the log flume.  In order to do this I will either have to mark the edges of the paper on the surface I am working from, or stick the first piece of paper down to the surface and then place the other pieces on top.

    Format Potential
  • A benefit of drawing my stop motion instead of using plasticine models is that it will be quicker as I can photocopy the background and change the foreground slightly every time, thus saving me time in the long run.

  • I can photocopy each of my different frames in case I lose any or they get physically damaged whereas if I were to use another medium like plasticine it would be much easier to damage and in order to get a copy of it you’d have to make a whole other model, which under time constraints would be very impractical.
  •           Because I am using drawn sketches, I could potentially trace the images I wish to draw instead of drawing them freehand if time became an issue, therefore I wouldn’t necessarily have to rely on masses of artistic talent in order to create an aesthetically pleasing piece.
